Into Africa's CSR Project

Into Africa CSR Project

As part of Into Africa's on-going CSR commitment, the team spent a fun-filled afternoon erecting a Foodtent at a local creche.  Pinocchio Creche is but a stones throw from the Into Africa offices, but is a window into a whole other world.  Maggie, founder of Pinocchio Creche, identified the need for a safe place for Domestic and Blue Collar Workers to leave their children while they work.  Many of the children leave home by six in the morning so that their mothers can get to work on time, there often isn't enough time for them to get a good meal at home so part of Maggies outreach programme is a feeding scheme. Maggie takes her job of educating the children about nutrition and healthy eating very seriously and was delighted when Into Africa offered to sponsor a Foodtent for the creche so that she would have a ready supply of healthy vegetables to feed the children in her care.  The Into Africa team helped to set up the Foodtent and got their hands dirty filling planting bags and planting the seedlings.  The project was perfectly organised and facilitated by Heart - a Social Enterprise Organisation - who have developed these Foodtents in response to the need for nutrious food.  The Foodtent increased food production by 400% and creates the opportuntiy for the beneficiary to generate some income from the excess produce, increasing their independence and sustainability.
