We are delighted to see the growing awareness of corporate social responsibility (CSR) within the clients we work with. The circumstances under which much of the population of Africa live, mean that there are some very real and valuable projects to invest in from a CSR perspective. The positive feedback we have and the demand we are seeing for township visits and interaction with rural communities demonstrates the need for CSR involvement. We have been fortunate enough to have been involved in and to have facilitated many projects. These have varied from the building of houses and schoolrooms to the construction of soccer facilities and even taking a township choir on tour to Germany.
The difficult aspect is to decide on the right project to invest in. It is often a question of finding a project which the donors can identify with and one which is a real community need. We work with the Africa Foundation on projects in the rural areas, where they prefer to work on projects which have been identified by the communities. These projects are much more likely to be successful as a result.
